From Resource Planning Technologies to Business Intelligence: Case Study of Implementing Business Intelligence Solutions in Romania

Abstract

The global business world has created incentives for information technology to develop and serve complicated tasks that companies’ management sets. The paper focuses first on the evolution of the information technologies up to contemporary world of business intelligence (BI) applications, providing a clear background of the main steps in BI history. The research then looks upon the challenges of implementing BI technologies in companies and analyzes Romania’s situation. Conclusions refer to the way BI helps the business community in general, in the world today with an emphasis of the main trends of BI sector in Romania. Main trends of economic developments of the Romanian industries are also considered when forecasting the dynamics of BI sector.
