abstract = {Over the past decade, the sustainability of the pay-as-you-go pension schemes has become a major concern for the Tunisian government, because of pension funds’ deteriorating finances. These regimes are affected by a demographic change in the Tunisian population worsened by the economic difficulties facing the country. Today, public authorities are aware that the current pension system no longer meets efficiency requirements. It then becomes necessary to examine the future of pension funds in the absence of reforms that are constantly being delayed from year to year. This paper aims first at describing the financial equilibrium parameters of the pay-as-you-go pension scheme and its interaction with the economic and demographic spheres. Second, it tries to assess the evolution of the pension funds’ budget deficit over the long term, if legislation is maintained unchanged.},
