abstract = {This article aims to explain the basic concepts of gross domestic product, standard of living, quality of life and economic indicators that will serve as tools for analysis. The main objective is to compare the quality of life between individual countries using the Human Development Index, focusing on the countries known as the Bucharest Nine in the period 2007 to 2021. This group includes: Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia. The Federal Republic of Germany, a representative of Western Europe, was chosen as a reference point for comparison.
