abstract = {The year 2020 has been remembered as one of the biggest health crises for human society. Restrictive traffic conditions, including economic activity, have helped to reduce trade relations around the globe. Many national and international companies, due to the decrease in turnover, have declared bankruptcy proceedings or resorted to state subsidies / bank loans to ensure the continuity of their activity. However, in this context there were also categories of companies, such as authorized intermediaries on the regulated Bucharest Stock Exchange market, which registered substantial gains. In order to demonstrate that there is a link between the COVID-19 lockdown and the change in the income of intermediaries on the local stock market in Romania, the study starts from the financial information extracted from the annual reports of the companies together with the monthly statistical data provided by the Management Board of Bucharest Stock Exchange. The starting point consists of a factorial analysis of the evolution of the turnover of intermediaries determined by the evolution of cases confirmed with COVID-19, the imposition of traffic restrictions, the number of investors, the volume and value of transactions in the stock market. Therefore, the obtained results confirm that the conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic, in the first phase of loss of financial resources, followed by attractive financial opportunities on the Romanian stock market, directly determined the volatility of the turnover of the authorized intermediaries. An atypical environment for economic activities can become an opportunity for favorable financial results.
