abstract = {The use of Internet can lead to a negative kind of dependency or addiction.  With the fast adoption rate of Internet in the KSA, this research believes that understanding how to guide the use of Internet especially by youth is very important.  The aim of this research is to assess the situation of internet addiction among students aged 12-16 in the KSA. The assessment is conducted through a survey questionnaire which was adapted from a valid Internet Addiction Test on a total of 425 respondents in the KSA cities with high rate of Internet penetration. The finding reveals a pattern similar to studies conducted in many countries in the world.  Although the addiction level may not be as severe as other countries with higher Internet usage, the research believes that proper monitoring and control should be in place to ensure an acceptable level of use of the Internet suitable to the culture of the KSA. Further research work to gauge the use and impact of Internet and social media in age group as young as 5 years old and studies on treatment strategy suitable to the culture of the country are recommended.
