abstract = {This study analyzes assessment practices in the teaching and learning process of Physical Education students enrolled in Human Biology and Biochemistry and Nutrition at a Colombian university. The study stems from concerns about the predominance of assessment practices focused on control and grading in higher education and the lack of contextualized evidence on how teachers and students understand the purpose, criteria, procedures, and instruments of assessment in these subjects. A qualitative study with a phenomenological and descriptive-exploratory approach was conducted. Data were collected through an open-ended questionnaire administered to two teachers and fifty students in the Bachelor's Degree program in Physical Education, Recreation, and Sports, along with non-participant observation. The findings indicate that assessment is primarily conceived as the measurement and control of knowledge. Students report little clarity regarding assessment criteria, while the most frequent procedures are questionnaires, reports, written exams, focus groups, and presentations. While self-assessment and peer assessment are mentioned, the teacher remains the central evaluator, and the content assessed shows limited connection to the professional context of future physical education teachers. The study underscores the need to strengthen formative, contextualized, and competency-based assessment practices in higher education.},
