abstract = {The intellectual ability of the work force of any organization or nation goes a long way in determining its prospects.  An organisation’s or a nation’s poor attitude to the development of its human capital is a devastating and worrisome challenge to the actualisation of  its vision .With these thoughts in mind, it was considered important to evaluate and report on  Nigeria’s readiness for global competitiveness and vision 2020 actualisation. The research was conducted to fill this gap by evaluating current Human Resource Management and Accounting Disclosure (HRMAD) practices in Nigeria, using financial service and manufacturing firms as the bases for study. Statistical tools like percentages analysis, mean, standard deviation, correlation analysis and T-test were utilized for various analyses. The study observed that there is no significant difference in HRMAD practices between the Financial and Manufacturing industries in Nigeria; also, there is a strong positive relationship between HRMAD and company size. As a result of research findings, that there is arbitrariness in reporting human resource management activities, and the non-existence of  legislation, currently, on reporting human resource practices– which explains the lack of uniformity in the presentation of information on human capital in annual reports of companies in Nigeria–  it was recommended that for Nigeria to achieve vision 2020 and be globally competitive, there is the need to value and incorporate human resources in financial statements of private and public sector organisations. All relevant and concerned authorities should also look into coming up with financial reporting standard(s) on human resource activities.  },
