Abstract

Traditional teaching-learning process required teachers to tell everything to students which end up students passively involved during the class or tutorial sessions. As the world has globally changed, the teaching and learning process needs to incorporate the interactive elements and methodologies in order to encourage peer-to-peer-discussions as well as to develop problem-solving skills that would be needed for their future professional development. Therefore, this paper presents the design process of a board game named as Spin N Go Board Game that will be used in taxation classes, in particular for the topic of Employment Income. The development of this board game applied the Serious Game Design Assessment Framework (SGDAF) (Mitgutsch and Alvarado, 2012). It contained six domains – purpose, content, framing, mechanic, fiction/narrative and aesthetic/graphics. At this stage, the board game is not yet tested on the students. However, it is believed that by using this board game, students will gain more knowledge in this topic due to enhanced engagement and motivation in their studies because games provide fun ways to learn.
