Abstract

The article studies the stages of formation and development of the information society abroad and in Russia. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the development and implementation of ICT as the main factor of successful formation and development of the information society. Relevant from the standpoint of economic theory is the study of the relationship between state and market regulators in the process of formation and development of the information society, both in Russia and abroad. The author reveals that the process of formation of the information society in Russia took place under active state regulation aimed at the introduction of ICT in various levels of government. Moreover, the further development of the information society in Russia requires a well-founded program of state support for information industries, which is the key to ensuring the country’s competitiveness.
