Abstract

Maternity and parental leave are two separate legal concepts of the Slovak legislation. The labour law as well as the social security law establish the legal framework in this area. With this regards Labour Code (Act no. 311/2001 Coll.) grants an employee – a woman the right to maternity leave and parental leave in connection with the childcare; whereas an employee – a man has the right to parental leave in connection with the childcare. Both institutes are linked not only to rights but to obligations as well. This article focuses on the rights and obligations of female employees rooting from these two legal concepts.
