Abstract
The article presents connection of the alternative use of seaports within one national economy on the competitiveness of supply chains. The purpose of the article is to indicate potential in responding to events affecting the effectiveness of international flows in supply chains, in the conditions of an extensive system of commercial ports of one country, which determinate its transit attractiveness and its position in the logistic networks of the modern economy.On the basis of the figures relating to the volume of cargo handled in the ports of the basins of various seas, the potential and actual position of the commercial ports of the Russian Federation in the changing geopolitical conditions of the last eight years has been indicated. The influence of ports on selected socio-economic aspects was also indicated.The article is of a theoretical and analytical nature, it relates directly to economic issues and supply chain management.
