Abstract

During the last 20 years, the Information Technology sector has known the most incredible evolution, having a great impact over day-to-day life for billions of people. Maybe now, more than ever, people are aware of the place occupied by technology in their lives, since Covid-19 forced us to move our main activities to online. Starting with March 2020, general activities, such as jobs, schools, shopping, social interactions and even the health system, when possible, were shifted to electronic work. Commercial activities started to move online before the lockdown, but obtained a stronger visibility after Covid-19 outbreak. The aim of this paper is to present electronic commerce together with its benefits and drawbacks, analyzing current development directions. In this regard, we need to consider one of its branches, m-commerce, as being able to overcome the classic e-commerce, using mobile devices. This growing popularity, generates security problems for a business and its customers, alerting data protection organizations.
