Abstract

Maritime transport, being the mode of transport and one with the greatest capacity, is exposed to several threats that can significantly affect the level of security of vessels, crews, cargoes, as well as different elements of infrastructure and superstructure. For each type of transport, including maritime transport, specific sources of risk and safety threats can be identified. The safety of maritime transport is one of the pivotal issues concerning its operation and development, both from the standpoint of how such entities are currently managed and from a strategic perspective, with environmental protection playing an equally important role in all that.

The article aims to identify the security drivers in maritime transport, particularly in the context of environmental protection. The article is of a review nature. The following methods were used: narrative literature review, synthesis, and methods of logical reasoning (deduction, induction, and abduction).
