Abstract
This paper aims to investigate the importance of transport infrastructures in the actual and future conditions of human evolution and to emphasize the importance of their sustainable development. It is considered the presentation of the basic elements in the development of new types of transport infrastructures, the sustainable ones, based on a modified concept of sustainable development. To achieve this objective, the advantages and costs of developing transport infrastructure in general from the perspective of sustainable development are summarized. At the same time, the need to complement the general concept of sustainable development with a new dimension, that of resilience, is underlined. According to this requirement, the new concept of sustainable development (neo-sustainability or sustainability 2.0) and the stages, instruments and requirements for adapting transport infrastructure modernization/development policies to this concept are defined. Thus, sustainable transport infrastructure is also defined, presenting the characteristics, requirements and methods of putting into practice this new vision of future development of communication routes. The study is complemented by implementation examples or project proposals supporting the development of sustainable transport infrastructures.
Keywords: Sustainable transport infrastructure, neo-sustainability, transport demand
