Top Skills for Graduates to Succeed in Post-Pandemic World: A Literature Review

Abstract

The significant impact of Covid-19 on businesses all around the world is likely to be severe. The downfall of businesses from various industries led to thousands of redundancies. The stake for job fulfilment and security has become higher than before, revealing that generic skill is no longer sufficient to sustain and prosper in the workplace. Therefore, it is significantly important for graduates to master skills that are genuinely useful and highly demanded in this post-pandemic world.

Deloitte Access Economics (2021) reports that by 2030, two-thirds of all jobs will be made up of soft-skill-intensive occupations. Hence, as new job opportunities begin to emerge, it is crucial for graduates to develop and enhance these key skills. According to The Future of Jobs Report 2020 by the World Economic Forum (WEF), critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving continue to be high in demand.

WEF also reports that flexibility and technology skills are emerging skills which employer continue to look forward to seeing in their potential workforce. This is consistent with the current and future working environment which has now become flexible with a quick adaptation of technology (Mangla, H., 2021). Hence, it is essential for graduates to set themselves up for these top skills, to achieve success in the new normal where work is going to be more dynamic and virtual.

This paper presents literature review on digital and flexibility skills. It is crucial for graduates to develop and enhance these key skills to allow them rebuilding better and more inclusive future career.
