The article presents a research study on the role of innovative IT systems, based on GPS services, in human resource management processes which take place in a job performed by a football coach. The literature on the subject emphasizes that the issues of human capital management are not only limited to enterprises and management staff. There is a strong tendency to transfer the issues of human capital management to other organizational forms, such as sports clubs or coaching staff. In the case of sports coaches, one of the key tasks involves management using monitoring of physical parameters. Today, this process uses the data obtained by means of innovative services and information technologies based on positioning systems. In the study, the data from the football match was collected using the innovative CATAPULT IT system equipped with GPS transmitters. One of the key parameters of the coaches’ assessment was analysed, i.e. the intensity of the player’s run depending on the phase of the game, i.e. attack or defence. The study covered players in the major football league in Poland in the autumn of the 2018-19 season. The aim of the article was to evaluate the hypothesis that on average the attack in the offensive phase cover longer distances than in the defensive phase and that the distance covered during intense running as well as peak speeds are higher in the first and not the second half of the match. Not only does this research study make an important contribution to the literature by providing up-to-date information on the aspects of human resource management in terms of commitment, but also on the data analysis and its use for training methods in sport. The study results are an important element of R&D in a job performed by a professional trainer.
