Abstract
The basic precondition for the development of any society is the creation of favorable and predictable living conditions, and thus an increase the quality of life of citizens. The quality of human life is influenced by various aspects, which in some cases are almost impossible to quantify. Aspects of the quality of human life that are closely linked to the development of society and can be quantified include, in particular, socio-economic indicators. The paper deals with the identification of the least developed regions in Slovakia and their assessment in terms of selected socio-economic indicators. The aim of the paper is to assess the development of the least developed regions in Slovakia in terms of basic socio-economic indicators of regional development in order to reduce regional disparities and ensure sustainable development.
