Abstract

Carpooling as a means of reducing travel costs is a popular mode of transportation. Typically, passengers choose drivers based on a variety of factors, such as travel cost, travel time, comfort, and safety. In this paper, we explore the possibility of adding contagion risk as a key factor in the decision-making process. We consider a global coordinating system that provides passenger assignments and driver routes to a set of participating carpoolers.
